[Product Update] New security enhancement for your Google Cloud environment

We're reaching out with an important update regarding enhancing the security of sensitive actions in your Google Cloud environment. This update strengthens protection against unauthorized access to your critical Google Cloud resources.

We have provided additional information below to guide you through this change.

What you need to know

Key changes

Starting in July 2025, to further protect your critical Google Cloud resources, you will need to re-enter your password or complete multi-factor authentication (MFA) for certain sensitive actions. These actions include billing assignment changes and IAM policy changes at the Organization, Folder, or Project level.

This additional authentication step ensures that only authorized users can make critical changes to billing and access control settings.

Re-authentication limitations

This re-authentication will initially apply to Google Cloud Console users with Google Cloud Identity. It will not apply to programmatic user account access or external identities federated through Workforce Identity pools and SSO.

Actions that require re-authentication

Specifically, you will be prompted to re-authenticate when performing the following actions (which correspond to these API calls):

resourcemanager.folders.setIamPolicy
resourcemanager.projects.setIamPolicy
billing.accounts.setIamPolicy
billing.accounts.move
billing.accounts.removeFromOrganization
billing.resourceAssociations.create

resourcemanager.projects.deleteBillingAssignment
resourcemanager.projects.createBillingAssignment
resourcemanager.tagValueBindings.delete

Note: Service accounts are not affected by these new re-authentication requirements.

What you need to do

No action is required from you. This enhanced security will be automatically applied starting July 2025.

This is a research preview. It requires more prompt engineering than previous models - but the generations are breathtaking. We'll continue fine-tuning to improve reliability and control.

Generate dynamic multi-speaker dialogue that handles interruptions, shifts in tone, and emotional cues based on conversational context.

If you're working on videos, audiobooks, or media tools - this unlocks a new level of expressiveness. For real-time and conversational use cases, we recommend staying with v2.5 Turbo or Flash for now. A real-time version of v3 is in development.

Upcoming changes to your settings

Hi Boby,

We're piloting changes to the Google Play purchase verification setting to give you new controls over your purchase experience.

Play purchase verification helps prevent unauthorized purchases on your device. Currently, for all payment methods (other than pay at convenience stores or pay with virtual account bank transfers), you can choose to require Play purchase verification always, every 30 minutes, or never. However, some payment methods available in Indonesia include their own, separate verification process. For those payment methods, you may have to complete verification twice if you also have Play verification turned on (e.g., set as "always" or "every 30 days").

Soon, this setting will change so that you can choose whether to require Play verification for payment methods that already include a separate verification process. In particular, this change will affect payments made using QRIS.

Important: This update may affect settings you have previously chosen. To check your current settings in the Google Play app, tap the profile icon at the top right > Settings > Purchase verification (some users may see "Purchase requirement").

This update will impact your current setting choice as described below. You can always choose to change this setting selection, including requiring Play verification for all purchases, once these updates are available.

If you've chosen to require Play verification "Always" or "Every 30 minutes" and you're 18 or older

Example 1: If you pay with QRIS, you need to complete Play verification, through biometrics or your Google Account password.

Example 2: If you pay with a gift card, you need to complete Play verification through biometrics or your Google Account password.

You'll no longer complete Play verification for payment methods that include a separate verification process, specifically QRIS.

Example 1: If you pay with QRIS, you'll only need to complete QRIS verification.

Example 2: If you pay with a gift card, you'll continue to complete Play verification.

If you've chosen to require Play verification "Always" or "Every 30 minutes" and you're under 18

You'll continue to be required to complete Play verification for all purchases.

If you've chosen to require Play verification "Never"

You'll continue to make purchases without Play verification.

We'll notify you soon when these changes take effect.
