I want to be honest. This is a fundraising email. I'm going to ask you to help us reach our goal of raising $4 million by midnight tomorrow tonight. Anything you can give right now will help us reach that goal. As a non-profit, the Mozilla Foundation relies on donations from people all over the world to help us do our work.
Now, with that out of the way, I'd like to talk with you about 2017.
2017 will be my 20th year at Mozilla. I often get asked what I'm proudest of these days. The truth is, I'm proudest of the fact that so many people have come up to me recently to say: we need Mozilla right now. After watching what's been happening in the world over the last six months, people are looking to Mozilla to lead the way in making sure the Internet stays healthy and open to all of us.
We've got our work cut out for us. Right now, many of the things Mozilla stands for are being questioned in the world. Diversity of opinion. Listening to each other. Tolerance. Openness. The ability of technology to protect individuals. All of this is being questioned. And all of this is Mozilla.
I want you to understand, the time is now. Many of the things we care about need attention today. We need more people building technology aimed at individual empowerment. We need more people to have the tools and know they need to keep themselves — and the internet — secure. And we need more people standing up for the freedom and health of the internet. All of these things urgently need more attention.
In 20 years, when people talk about Mozilla, what I hope they say is that our greatest moments are in front of us. The work we've done in the past has simply set us up for the future. Hopefully we've built the foundation for our greatest moments ahead.
The world has changed. There is a huge need for Mozilla to be a bright, shining example of the sets of values we desire to see in the world. There is also a need for us to raise the money we need to do the work we must right now. Please, help us reach our goal of raising $4 million tonight by midnight.
2017 is here. It's going to be a big a year. Now let's go change the world for the better, together.
